These magnificent and massive carved wooden doors are dated to 1665. They are from a chapel in Michoacan, Mexico and were carved by Tarascan wood carvers. They are now installed on one of the art galleries at the Amerind Foundation in Texas Canyon.
I didn't know about this place. I would like to visit one day. The location reminded me of Council Rocks which I visited once. I will try to send you a photo of the pictographs. It is a beautiful place to explore.
Kathy, This is a FASCINATING place! The core building was, I think, a grand old ranch house and it is interesting all by itself. The collections are tremendous. :)
Love the Southwest? Love Tucson? Every day on "Tucson Daily Photo" you'll see a new image that might be beautiful, unusual, fun, or maybe even inspirational.
Welcome!

I'm a transplanted New Yorker who loves the Tucson climate. On New Year's Day I have a bit of fun calling my (snowbound) east coast friends to announce that I'm drinking coffee while sitting on my patio. (:
