Planetary Scientist's Spaceship

Ceres - yes, you know it! It's the largest object betwen Mars & Jupiter. The bright spots on this dwarf planet (some still refer to it as an asteroid) have sparked a lot of excitement and speculation about the origins - salt? sodium caronate? ammonia-rich clay?

  1. Then there is this CERES:
Ceres was the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain, and the love a mother bears for her child. She was the daughter of Saturn and Ops, the sister of Jupiter, and the mother of Proserpine. Ceres was a kind and benevolent goddess to the Romans and they had a common expression, "fit for Ceres," which meant splendid.

  2. Hi Roseann! Thank you - WONDERFUL! Yes, I think it's marvelous that the heavenly bodies have all been named after the Roman gods and goddesses. It connects us to our ancient past.
