Direct Delivery to Santa ~

Looks like the Arizona Inn has established a direct mailbox to Santa. Good to know in case you haven't sent him your wish list yet!

Part bug, Part Box, Part (human) Being...

Here is another of Tucson's interesting mailboxes! I love public art of all kinds and residential art is particularly fun. This Bug Box definitely has a human face! Fun!!

Tucson's Alpine Chalet ~

This charming little house is a mailbox! Check out the shingled roof and the mini planter at the back! Wonderful!  And notice the "flag" is a purple tulip!  (:

Shrines, Warnings & the US Mail

I was driving to visit a friend and noticed this remarkable construction in front of a house on her street. You can see a regulation mailbox there in the center but that's where anything "regular" ends! The mailbox is flanked by fierce Aztec statues and ceramic sunflowers. The two discs are brightly painted Aztec calendars. To add to this eyecatching mix... check out the Madonna mosaic and sculpture on the front of the house! It looks like they keep their holiday lights up all year round ~ I'll have to drive by at night and see how this looks illuminated.
A few years ago new owners removed all of this eclectic decor. It may not be everyone's taste but it was sure colorful!

Land-based Oriole Nest?

When I first saw this photo I thought it looked like a giant oriole nest! But since it was fashioned from barbed wire I think the homeowner might be sending a barbed message (sorry, that was irresistible!) to say: "No Bills or Junk Mail, Please!"

Wonderful, joyful street art!

Celebrating the name of their street, Calle de Jardin, (Garden Street), these homeowners have painted their wall with vines, leaves, and huge sunflowers. The wall curves around to also brighten the view to passersby on Broadway. They even tricked out their mailbox as a charming little house. NICE!

Hanging Head ~

This striking tableau certainly caught my eye! I think it is a really interesting entryway but it seems a little creepy to me. You?

If Noah had only swatted those two flies....

MailBUG! Fun mailbox! Looks like a home creation of a really giant fly... or maybe a bee (they both have 6 legs). But this fellow is some sort of mutant insect because it only has 2 wings (bees and flies have 4). Is there an insect that has 6 legs, 2 wings, and a lock mechanism for a nose? Dunno.

Exuberant Mailbox ~

What a happy creation to welcome all snail mail! A beautiful flower and butterfly combination support this standard mailbox and raises it to a new level of fun!

Wine tasting ~

This metal purple prickly pear sculpture mailbox collects the mail for a wonderful wine tasting "cellar" on Alvernon near Ft Lowell: Catavinos Wines.

Merry Olde England in Tucson ~

When I see a mailbox like this I think of Victorian England. This charming post box is in the beautiful Sam Hughes neighborhood, a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy a piece of Tucson's history.

Friendly saguaro ~

What a fun residential street this is. In the foreground the saguaro sculpture seems to be waving "hello!" to passersby (or maybe just to the mailman). Don't miss the barrel cactus mailbox in the background - much smaller but just as fun.

A magic house ~

I'm not sure if it's the unusual curved entry way, the lavender color, or the pink mailbox but this house and garden look simply enchanting to me!

Notice anything odd about this photo?

As Dave Barry would say, "Sharp eyed readers alerted me....." that these addresses are not exactly sequential! What do you think happened to all of the house addresses between 1965 and 1999? My personal theory is that this Tucson street has a permanent rift in the time/space continuum. Anyone else want to explain this oddity??

Cactus squared ~

What a great, fun mailbox - an almost life sized saguaro. With the real thing echoing it in the background.
