This wonderful old neon sign on Campbell near Grant is, I think, a stray. Doesn't look to me like the "Color TV King" store exists there - all I saw was a comic book store. Anyone know any more about this old rogue sign?
I vaguely remember the store existing there...but looking a bit further in Vanishing Tucson: Jack Fitzgerald the "TV King" apparently owned several stores around town.
I used to make Jack's TV commercials. I'm pretty sure that is the original store. At least, it's the one that Jack met us at to plan the commercials. We made them in our studios at KZAZ TV on Tucson Blvd.

I'm a transplanted New Yorker who loves the Tucson climate. On New Year's Day I have a bit of fun calling my (snowbound) east coast friends to announce that I'm drinking coffee while sitting on my patio. (:
I love old neon signs.

ReplyDeleteI remember the sign but not the store. Interesting that the sign is still there.
ReplyDeleteK. from Boston.
Is Vanishing Tucson a book? I don't know of it. When was it published? Thanks for this info!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a Yahoo forum (so you have to sign up and Carlos will grant you "entry"). Just google it!
