My workhorse of a washing machine konked out so I thought I would venture into that staple of modern American life - the laundromat. I had not stepped inside one since my college days so it was comforting to see that the concept is exactly the same: put coins in, load laundry & soap - voila - clean clothes. For drying, though, I was surprised to have the option of buying 8 minutes at a time for just a quarter.
