Here is a great example of how weird our monsoon storms are in Tucson. Notice the beautiful blue sky with fluffy white clouds co-mingled with rain clouds. Unless you live here it's hard to understand how it can rain on one side of the block and not the other....
You are so right. My mom lives close to the UA football stadium. My brother goes to the games and he said it rained the entire game, but not a drop at mom's house.
It's why you don't go and sit in a dry city wash in the sun and watch the monsoon cloud pouring down rain in the foothills. Hard to explain how dangerous that is!!
Yep. And without fail every year there are always a few stories about stranded motorists (photos usually show them standing on their car roofs) who figured they could "make it" across a flowing wash. At least there really is a Stupid Motorist Law!

I'm a transplanted New Yorker who loves the Tucson climate. On New Year's Day I have a bit of fun calling my (snowbound) east coast friends to announce that I'm drinking coffee while sitting on my patio. (:
That capricious weather makes great sky photos, though!
